Horseback riding Cordillera
Circuit - Long - 7 days
This is a trip for adventurers! Riding seven days on horseback
through the ever changing landscape of the Cordillera.
Crossing fast running rivers, climbing up steep mountains
and sleeping in the outdoor, makes you feel like a
pioneer again.
Day 1
We
pick you up from the hotel and leave Bariloche from the little
creek of Medio by horse. Quickly we enter the vast land
of the steppe. Pre-Cordillera land with little vegetation
until we cross the Rio Nirihuau. Here we get a look
at an old tradition of stone-making. At the 'hornos de ladrillo'
horses are used to provide energy for the big oven that cooks
the mud-stones. We set up camp at the riverside and
spend our first night under the stars.
Day 2
We continue further into the mountains of the steppe to
the 'Roca del condor' where we might be able to see
the condors circle above our heads. Different colours
of minerals decorate the mountains. On the coast of the Rio
Pichileufu we set up camp and bath in the river with the
sun going down.
Day 3
Enjoying
a delicious campfire breakfast on the riverside we get ready
to follow the river up to Las Mellizas. Here the real
Cordillera starts and we climb above the 2000 meter
borderline where we can see the snow on the mountaintops.
We have to pass through Porte Suelo where we set up camp for
the night.
Day 4
In the morning we get up early to visit 'the people of
goats', indigenous that live on the other side of the
Chubut river. We cross the river until we get to the Rio
Foyel. From here it's a steep climb up to the plain
of Mesada de Los Bahuales (1800 m). A lot of wild cows
can be seen here and we stay the night there.
Day 5
This day we wonder down the high Cordillera to where we have
an incredible view of the Villegas valley. It is a green
valley with a river running through it and mountains on
both sides. As we go down we find a nice spot to camp on the
Rio Villegas coast and have time for a swim.
Day
6
In the morning we follow the river until we get to
Pampa del Toro, where we cross a road and follow our way
to Lago Esteffen. In the middle of nature this lake
is connected with three other lakes, and the view of the three
lakes is breathtaking. We make camp at the lake and cook our
campfire dinner.
Day 7
From Lago Esteffen we ride all the way up to Lago Mascardi.
In the wilderness there is the Veranada del Bock, a
region where the grass always grows, hence its name
'veranada' (verano= summer). Here a lot of cattle comes to
feed. A beautiful waterfall can be seen and we visit Don Patricio
who lives all by his own on this 800 acres land. We ride on
a little bit until we reach the farm where we will be transported
back to civilization. Back at the hotel you are welcomed
with a soft bed and warm shower.
